I’ve decided

I’ve decided to join up with a slew of amazing writers, bloggers and photographers to do a month of challenge with NaBloPoMo and NaPhoPoMo. Basically, I will be posting for a full 30 days in November. If you look on the sidebar of this blog you will see, I tried to do this last year. Or was it two years ago… whatever the case, that was an epic FAIL! And I’m perfectly ok with that fail, LOL! My goal is to get in back into the habit of writing, I so miss it and so here I go giving it a try.  I guess my main issue has been my spirit of creativity has taken a back seat. But I’m giving her the reigns again and looking forward to where she takes me. I don’t want every post to be all somber and sad and melancholy, so I’m finding the positive and using it to my full advantage. Plus, I’m just preparing myself for the New Year!

My photos will be posted on my instagram feed and possibly my tumblr page. You can see my instagram photos in the sidebar, so that is definitely my first location to post. These photos will be a combination of my iPhone and my DSLR, I am looking forward to really getting to know my DSLR. The two of us are going to be the best of buddies soon.

I’m trying to make a choice between a new piece of glass (lens for my camera) or a new laptop. Actually what I want is a new camera body, with a couple new pieces of glass and the laptop and software to go with it. But what will inevitably happen is I will either get a new lens or a new laptop, yes… First World Photographer Problems… Maybe my other half will get that one lens for my Birth-DAY. LOL!

Oh yeah! I almost forgot, I’m trying out a new way to blog… No photos attached. We’ll see how long that lasts, LOL! I like pretty things 🙂

Anyways, I have already started the posting. And so look forward to many more to come in the 28 days to follow.

Why am I here?

My reintroduction…

Welcome, my name is Iiona and I’m happy you stopped by. Initially, I started this blog as a way to keep in touch with family as we moved from Wisconsin to Texas. It was a huge deal for me and I was having separation anxiety, so I wanted a way to be able to keep people updated on what was happening in our crazy little life. Of course, life has happened in the middle of all that and the stories I post on here are a mix of everything. I post a lot about my children, and how that looks in my life. I mean after all I am a SAHM with six children. I’m married to my best friend, we’ve been married for about 8 1/2 years and it seems like it’s already been half of forever. Let me introduce you to the family 🙂

There is Ike, my other half. He is a motorcycle fanatic, owns a Harley Davidson and wouldn’t have it any other way. He loves riding long distances on his bike, which tends to have us taking road trips over the summer. He typically rides his motorcycle and I drive the van with the kiddos. We are a blended family, and occasionally the older three make an appearance on the blog. But mostly they don’t. Ike never reads my blog, which is neither here nor there. It just is, and I’m ok with that.

Next is, D-boy. He is our 14 year old son whom is artistic, sensitive and still learning who/what he is. We think he is adorable, let me rephrase that. I think he is adorable, but I can’t say that out loud to him because he is a Freshman in high school now. I’m side eyeng that I have a high schooler, it makes me feel incredibly old. D-boy is a sensitive old soul who began talking in full sentences at 9 months. He is a literal learner and if anyone understands that, it just means its all black or all white. There is absolutely NO GREY! Which makes for some interesting conversations.

Mini Mouse is the second mom of the house, she is 8, but I swear she acts like she is 28. Which most days is great, but there are those times where it can get intense. Have you ever had one of those days where you realize you’re punishing your child for acting like you? Yeah, happens a lot. She is a perfect mix of Isaac and I. She is witty, funny and super sarcastic. When I say the conversations in our house are comical, I mean it 100%!

Next up is Miss Marie, she is the youngest of our blended family and the one who gets the most attention. I’m so not going to lie about that, LOL! Hey, I can own up to my #momfails can you? She was premature, born at 33 weeks and stayed the first 5 1/2 weeks of her life in the NICU. Life hasn’t been the same since she made an entrance into this world. We have learned so much about ourselves and about what it means to raise a child that is differently abled. She is deaf, wears bilateral hearing aids and absolutely gives no one a pass. In the deaf community she would be considered Hard of Hearing, but I have to clarify the difference to people. Because if I say hard of hearing, people think old folks hard of hearing. When it’s more life born this way and it can get worse hard of hearing. The funniest thing about Miss Marie is she doesn’t smile much or give much attention to people who talk to her for small talk, people get uncomfortable with that and I have learned that’s her and she has that right to make the decision to talk to strangers if she so chooses.

Then we have three foster children, we call them Babies. So there is Baby R, he just turned 2 and is a complete hoot. He is stubborn and feels like he should be able to chose how things go. Then there is his twin sisters, Baby N and Baby M. They just recently turned one. The biggest thing we have been dealing with lately is they are new walkers… Let that sink in… So we have three tiny humans walking around the house trying to run shit, and most times they do.

As I stated earlier, I started the blog to share our life with our family up north. Since then it has evolved into something different. Lately I have been blogging to write about the experiences I have been through and the lessons & growth I have learned through those experiences. I call them my lessons learned. I’ve also been blogging about our experiences as foster parents and what that looks like. Basically, I write because… I want to feed the need to be a self absorbed prick in my own corner of the universe. Or maybe I write because my alter ego refuses to let me rest until I spill out the stories that are rolling through my head on a movie reel.

If by chance during this process of blogging I start and finish the book I want to write (a children’s book and an adult book), then I feel like I would have accomplished my goal. I am looking forward to where this current journey takes us as a family and where I end up.

Thanks for stopping by and reading!

I’m on a camera kick lately

So I’ve been on a camera kick lately. As in wanting to take tons of photos but not wanting to do anything with them. I just wanna play with my cameras. Is that too much to ask, lol!

So, I have a Nikon D5000 and absolutely LOVE it! But I feel I’ve outgrown it. Mainly I want some new glass (lens) and a new camera and I can only afford one or the other. Because I also need a new laptop & like most laptop snobs I only use MAC. It has all I need for photography and when I figure it out videography as well. I also want super awesome programs but they all cost an arm, one a leg as well.

So I’m stuck in this space of wanting new equipment and not being able to justify buying it. I thought we would have walls covered in photos. But it takes time and money to be able to print and hang the photos I want. As in I want poster size photos printed on canvas… Le sigh, the struggle of a mom-tographer!

So to kind of combat my want I got a lens for my iPhone… Hahaha! I can already hear the smart remarks about that. But seriously check out the photos I took with my new iPhone lens, they are amazing and awesome and cool! Lol!

I’ve also been taking pictures of the kiddos at their events (sports, dance, meets, competitions, etc) and out of the 500 photos I’ve taken about 20 of them are in focus and look good. So I need new glass to help with that. Which is also where’s want/need comes in. So I’ll save money, keep checking in on the price and the len and then eventually buy. I wanted one for Miss Marie’s state meet in Denton on November 8th but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. Unless of course I find a donar or I run into a whole bunch of money, lol!

Anyways, enjoy your Sunday! We will be headed out soon for the kiddos to get their pictures taken at Picture People and maybe catch a family movie. Sometimes it’s fun to be baby-less on the weekends 🙂

It’s been a long time.

It is the last day of August, where did summer vacation go? In June, it seemed like we were enjoying our time as a family of 5 and patiently waiting for our first placement. In July, we spent our time getting to know our first placement and getting on a new routine/schedule. Having two small ones in the house sure does change things. August has been filled with trying to catch-up from July, get into the mindframe that school starts again and that we are back to the hustle and bustle of the rat race called keeping busy…

Anyways, I’m not one for much conversation so I will just post pictures to kind of catch you up 🙂

These are DSLR camera pics vs my iPhone pics that I’ve been posting like crazy 🙂

Fourth of July Pictures, party at our place 🙂

There are tons more pictures, but since a ton of them have the newest members of our household in them I can’t post them online. I will post more pictures of other things we have done, though it has been a “short” summer it has been amazing and fun.

Love y’all, Iiona
